BBC Ads on International Pages

I am currently delivering an eMarketing course in Jakarta, Indonesia and one evening (well, every evening), I thought I'd check the news from home on the BBC. I was quite surprised to find on this occasion that, on opening the BBC website, they are now delivering banner ads. So far I have seen rich html ads appearing above the general BBC homepage template and in the top right corner (just below the nav bar) and video ads, appearing just before sports news stories. Let's just hope that some of this money goes to reducing the amount we have to pay in the UK for license fees (current cost £139 per year)!

New Year, New Direction

Marketing Tom Media

You may have noticed over the past couple of weeks that I have made some modifications to this site. Well, 2008 is all about change and for me it will all kick off from this site. Marketing Tom has developed over the years. It started out as a vehicle where I could post articles about Internet Marketing issues, primarily Search Engine Optimisation. Marketing Tom then explored Google AdWords and new trends in the Internet and last year there was quite a focus on Social Media.

Well, towards the back end of last year Marketing Tom Media Ltd was born and this will now be the vehicle through which I do my development, consultancy and training. I also hope to do some consultancy projects with colleagues over the year that will primarily be focused on Social Media. Keep watching this blog (you can subscribe to it if you haven't already) as I hope to announce some exciting developments over the next few weeks.

New Look Marketing Tom

I have spent the past day or so redesigning the new-look site and am almost there! I just need to add some content into the navigation buttons, clean up the category sections and modify the sidebar. If you would like to let me know what you think about the site, or would like me to add anything new, just get in touch: alun @ gmail dot com.

The Stern Review on Global Warming

You may have heard about the Stern Review, which today is the main news item on the radio, TV and the web in the UK.

The world has to act now on climate change or face devastating economic consequences, according to a report compiled by Sir Nicholas Stern for the UK government.

And Prime Minister Tony Blair said:

"the Stern Review showed that scientific evidence of global warming was "overwhelming" and its consequences "disastrous".

Whilst the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown

"the UK would lead the international response to tackle climate change."

And the Environment secretary David Miliband said the Queen's Speech would now feature a climate bill to establish an independent Carbon Committee to:

"work with government to reduce emissions over time and across the economy".

Worryingly, the newspapers in the country that produces 25% of the world's pollution, didn't even lead with this story today!
